Most of you may know that I have a dislike of the wii console. I did once own a Gamecube and that was probably the last "proper" console Nintendo will ever make. Gamecube's only downfall was its controller and slightly odd look but it eaisly outclassed the Wii in every way.
Here is my list of why I cant take wii seriously. If you dont like it (that goes to you deadmetalhead and sidar) dont read it.
1.The gimmick-Nintendo has chosen to market its controller rather then its console. Every advertisment has been about how you can turn it into a gun or a steering wheel or a knife or a spatula or how you can just hold it in one hand and fling it around.. The basic message I get is that they want the viewer to focus on the wiimote so that they can forget about the less then impressive specs of the wii. Gimmicks do indeed sell fast for people who fall for them but for people like me, a gimmick isnt enough. I need something more then controller. I need a capable console and that is something the wii cant provide.
2.Underpowered hardware-Honestly, this is what is the biggest downfall of the Wii. Its specs can't even be considered current generation. It has little procesing power and even lesser graphics capabilities. It makes me feel like Nintendo didnt even try or that they were just trying to save a much money as they could while making it. This has of course, led to some very outdated graphics and even worse making it impossible for certain 3rd party games to port to the wii. Most developers dont even want to touch it since they can make better games on ps3 and 360. You may say graphics are not everything but we all know that is not true. When we see new consoles we expect them to have better graphics as well as improve in hardware. If the Wii had the specs of the 360 (hell even half the specs would have worked) I would probably consider it a great console but these specs simply show that Nintedo didnt want to put any effort into their machine.
3.Casual gaming-I like to define them as "games so simple that a toddler could play them". Casual games are not something that should be taken so seriously. They are fine in moderation but a console focused on them is a terrible move. Most people who buy games want a game that is a challenge and not a simple causal game plus that fact is that hardcore gamers buy more games then casual gamers do. We have not seen a casual games sell anywhere near Halo 3 or GTA levels and we probably never will. Gamers want serious and challenging games not mini games.
4.Recycling old franchises-Mario, Zelda, Smash brothers, Pokemon. These games have been remade over and over and over (copy paste that about 500 times and you will get the idea). These are all great franchises but I have not seen many new things from Nintendo in a while. While ps3 and 360 have introduced dozens of new franchises Nintendo has basically released more Mario and Zelda games. Why do they never make anything new? Are they afraid to take a chance or are they just out of ideas. You decide.
5.Wii fit-Quite honestly its a new low in gaming. Wii fit is like those "weight loss pills" you see on TV. It claims you will lose weight by using it but the fact is you really won't. Its about as silly as saying Guitar hero will teach you how to play a real guitar. It seems now the gaming industry has found a way to prey on the obese people and take their money. What's even worse is that people are actually falling for this. I hear all the time that "it will be great to get fit and have fun at the same time!" It just shows that Nintendo knows their consumers gullibility very well.
6.Not enough games for teenagers-Whenever I walk into my local game store I look at the wii games. There is a lot of them but I mostly only see E rated games, A few teen rated games and a few M rated games (usually the M rated game is manhunt and No more Heros). Im no kid anymore. Childrens games dont amuse me. Then again nintendo has never been one to depart from the 'family friendly" style of their games but more mature games would help me take the wii more seriously.

Square Enix will announce a new title in the Life is Strange series on January 20 at 10:00 a.m. PT / 1:0 p.m. ET, the company teased.

Where Winds Meet on PS5 is a wuxia MMO with strong action combat, open-ended exploration, and plenty to do if you like setting your own pace.

Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:
"It is hard to believe that there would be a time that not only would the Western releases of The Legend of Heroes franchise manage to catch up to the Japanese releases of this incredibly lengthy franchise, but that the game’s that helped kick it off would be getting remade at the very same time. A few months ago we reviewed the fresh remake of Nihon Falcom’s Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter and now here we are, visiting the most recent release in a story featuring characters and plot elements spanning all the way from that very first game twenty-two years ago. It’s not often that a video game sequel requires full knowledge of its predecessors, and in many ways The Legend of Heroes tried to do that with Daybreak, but now that everything has gathered together in The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon, players best be ready for the most character packed, lore heavy, game of the franchise since Reverie."
Sweet read. It's nice to read blogs that, even though one may not agree with the comments, stimulate some sort of intellectual thought on matters of surrounding the industry.
Why I can't take you seriously. Gimmick is the sixaxis, Underpowered hardware was the PS2 last gen which did awesome, Casual gaming I just need to point out the PS2 again, Recycling franchises I'll point out everyone in the business, Wii Fit isn't for everyone just like MGS4 oh and PS2/xbox had an exercising games last gen, good games are there but people only focus on how Wii only has Wii Play and Carnival Games.
So popular opinion vs reality. Seems people love to live in fantasy land with the Wii. No offense you didn't mean it but the truth is out there.
Wii hate threads are so common? If you don't own one why complain?
I personally used to love nintendo but ever since the sorry ds and the poor man version of a console wii showed up Nintendo has just been throwing crap at us. I don't mean any offense to wii lovers though. It's only my humble opinion.
